Goal: To enable more CPS high school students to successfully prepare for, apply to, and complete postsecondary education.
Chicago Public Schools created the Department of Postsecondary Education and Student Development (PSESD) in recognition of the growing need for education after high school. PSESD is mounting an unparalleled effort to transition more of our high school students into postsecondary education. In cooperation with our counselors, we are enhancing the infrastructures in our high schools while simultaneously increasing partnerships with external organizations that can provide the supports and experiences our students need to enter college and attain a postsecondary degree.
PSESD works to strengthen college preparation curricula and counseling supports in all Chicago high schools. In addition, we partner with local and national colleges and universities to create an array of college experiences and resources for students. We also strive to secure opportunities for financial assistance that will help students with the costs of college.
PSESD’s work is framed by four essential principles: awareness, readiness, access, success.
