Construction and Architecture Academy

A Construction and Architecture Academy is a learning community within a high school that focuses on our Architectural Drafting, Carpentry, Electricity and Plumbing programs. As individual students, you will focus on one of the programs (kind of like a major in college), but you will also take classes with all academy students and work together occasionally on group projects.

College and Career Academy Application

Round 2 Applications are due April 13, 2012 at 5pm

8th Graders who want to participate in a College and Career Academy, should apply.

Freshmen who are attending a school with a College and Career Academy or CTE stand alone program who wish to participate should speak with their counselor.

Architecture

As a student in the Architecture program, you will learn the basic principles of architecture and learn to use the latest technology to design building and complete architectural drawings. You will master architectural skills such as preparing preliminary drawings and basic layouts; producing working drawings; and creating computer aided draft.

Carpentry

As a student in Carpentry you will learn to estimate materials, prepare building sites, install rough framing, and install exterior and interior finishes. Some of your hands-on experiences will include working in the lab to prepare foundations; install rough framing, exterior finishes and interior finishes basic framing (wall, floor, and roof); and choosing types of framing materials. At the end of the program you will have gained the skills needed to design and construct buildings.

Electricity

As a student in the Electricity program you will learn the skills necessary to wire interior of buildings. You will practice selecting the size and type of wire installation necessary for installation of furnace motors, vent fans, 3-4 way switches, and switch boxes in drywall.

Plumbing

As a student in the Plumbing program you will learn to cut pipes, join copper tubing and strip pipes, install water tanks. In addition to the technical skills you will gain, by the end of this program you have the ability to estimate costs for installation and repair jobs, keep record of equipment failures, and interact with clients, all necessary for being successful in any construction career you may choose.
