Have you heard about GEAR UP at your school and wondered what it is? GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a program at various CPS elementary and high schools that helps students graduate from high school and go to college. GEAR UP supports the whole school. If you attend a GEAR UP school you are automatically part of the program.
As a GEAR UP student, you will:
- Receive ongoing support to help you graduate high school on time.
- Use Choices Explorer or Choices Planner to learn about careers and the education you need to pursue your goals.
- Be encouraged to enroll in rigorous courses.
- Go to tutoring sessions.
- Participate in AVID, Saturday programs or summer programs.
- Participate in college readiness programs, college application and financial aid workshops, trips to college campuses, and more.
Get your parents involved! Parents can be actively involved in GEAR UP. Parents can take part in an annual leadership conference as well as several workshops each year, which may cover such topics as parenting teens, dealing with money, and understanding GPAs.
