CPS-sponsored campus tours provide students opportunities to visit colleges and universities locally and across the country. Campus visits are an important part of the college selection process. Touring campuses helps students distinguish between various colleges and envision themselves as students on a particular campus. Visiting colleges also provides prospective students with the chance to meet current students, faculty, admissions and financial aid representatives, participate in a college class, and see residence and dining halls.
Before each tour, students receive an orientation packet. The packet contains a series of questions to assist them in their assessment of the college environment. On the tour, students ask specific questions of the college admissions and financial aid officers. They also meet with a panel of students on each campus to gauge whether each school is a “good fit” for them. Upcoming citywide college tours will be listed on this webpage.
Students are also encouraged to visit colleges on their own or with family or friends. Many colleges have “open house dates.” Students can plan to visit on these dates or make arrangements to visit at more convenient times, such as days when CPS is not in session. If students cannot visit a campus in person, they should take advantage of virtual college tours. Campustours.com is one free online program which students can use to view colleges online.
