Brooks Entrepreneurship Students To Compete In Championship Competition

Fri, 07/15/2011

Creating a deal to merge insurance giants Allstate and Progressive wins Brooks High School students an invitation to compete for the National Championship title in this year's Youth About Business (YAB) summer program.

Congratulations to Karalyn Kelley, Ryan Lewis and Ricardo Pierre-Louis on your regional victory!!!

Students participating in the YAB program spend a week in overnight "camp" - this year the midwest regional camp was hosted at the University of Chicago. The students are engaged in Mergers and Acquisitions transaction simulations, breaking into teams and assuming the leadership of an assigned corporation. They began their due diligence by researching their company's Annual Report. Each team is taught by local executives who serve as their business consultants. They help the students understand complex business transactions and provide guidance on the proper techniques to use in negotiating a merger or acquisition. The competition concludes with the students negotiating and presenting a fictional merger deal to a panel of senior-level executives. The top three teams from each region advance to "Championship Camp" to compete for the National Championship title.

The deal that won these talented Brooks students was a "Case Competition Presentation" of a fictional merger between Allstate and Progressive. Click here to download a copy of the annual report they created that won the competition.

Again, congratulations and best of luck to you at Nationals!

The National Championship Camp will take place July 25-29 at Columbia University in New York City.
