Joan Kane - Star in the Classroom Award

Whitney Young teacher Joan Kane will receive the 3M Star in the Classroom Award, sponsored by 3M and Econ Illinois. The award recognizes educators who have incorporated economic education into the classroom and provided a learning environment that has allowed for student success. Additionally, Star in the Classroom teachers have promoted economics in the classroom by providing leadership for economics in their school, showing evidence of professional growth in economic education, or having sustained student growth in economic understanding.

The award will be presented at the Econ Illinois annual Economic Educator Day Awards Luncheon held at the Union League Club of Chicago on October 25, 2011. Ms. Kane will receive a framed certificate, cash award and a unique professional development opportunity. Committed to recognizing excellence in teaching, 3M has sponsored this prestigious award for the past thirteen years. Econ Illinois is a Division within NIU Outreach, Engagement, and Information Technologies, and is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization providing professional development programs for K-12 teachers, curriculum consulting, and student programs to enhance economic understanding.
