Congratulations and Good luck to Juarez and Clemente Students!
Recently the architecture class at Juarez High School partnered with the design consulting firm, IDEO-Chicago, and architecture firm Perkins and Will, to design an architecture classroom of the future. These Career and Technical Education (CTE) students spent two months working with IDEO to research and design a classroom concept that is flexible and sustainable with a focus on increasing the use of natural light.
Meanwhile, across the city, CTE students at Clemente High School were hard at work with architects and architectural designers from the architecture firm Gensler to create a classroom focused on improving connections between students and the classroom, the classroom and the school and the school and the community. Ultimately the team wants to use these connections to improve learning environments and to encourage ownership of local schools. More about this team and their design can be found in Chicago Agent Magazine.
Both designs were submitted to the Architecture for Humanity 2009 Open Architecture Challenge for a chance to win the grand prize of up to $50,000 in funding for classroom construction and upgrading. To learn all about the contest checkout http://www.openarchitecturenetwork.org.
Once again congratulations Juarez and Clemente students amazing designs, and good luck in the competition!
