Once again, Chicago Public Schools, the American Bottling Company and Roosevelt University are jointly sponsoring their annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Competition. All 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders are invited to participate.

Essay Topic
What event or person in Hispanic history has most influenced or inspired you or modern society and why?

Prizes

» Grand prizes: Four (4) laptop computers and printers will be awarded to each of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students responsible for the top essay in their grade level.

» Second place prizes: Four (4) digital cameras and photo printers will be awarded to each of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students responsible for the second place essay in their grade level.

» Scholarships: A $5,000 Roosevelt University scholarship will be awarded to each of the Grand Prize winning students. Recipients will hold rights to their scholarships until they graduate high school. Students using the scholarship must meet Roosevelt University admission criteria.

Rules
Rules for the competition and an entry form are available at each high school or they may be downloaded here. Completed essays should be submitted to the competition coordinator at each school by September 30, 2009. Essays will be judged on originality and creativity, cultural knowledge and research, organizational structure and clarity, as well as spelling and grammar.

The competition winners, their families and their school principals and teachers will be invited to an awards banquet at which all winners will be recognized and receive their prizes.
