School Counselor Practicum / Internship Program

The Office of Pathways to College and Career (OPCC) K-12 Counseling and Advising Department is excited to invite prepared school counseling interns to complete a practicum and/or an internship in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) during the next school year! Our School Counselor Practicum/Internship Program has been developed to assist CPS elementary and high school counselors in partnering with an intern in order to positively impact student achievement while exposing future counseling professionals to evidence-based academic, personal/social, and college and career programming within CPS.

Pursuant to the CPS Board Report 11-1116-ED3 candidates from approved university partners are welcome to apply for internship placement.

Notice of School Counselor Practicum/Internship Program Site Supervisor Applications: Approved Site Supervisors
K-12 Advising has reviewed applications and is pleased to inform the site supervisors from the CPS schools listed here that your application has been approved at this time. In addition, we have begun assigning placement pool sites to student interns from our current university partners that have successfully cleared CPS security clearance protocols and the K-12 Advising application review. Initially, the name and school contact information of the approved Site Supervisor will be issued to three intern students.

Note: Student interns have been instructed to contact the site supervisors and schools directly to complete any screening requirements (i.e interview, resume submittal, etc.) that you and your Principal may have for an intern. Please be mindful that students have university deadlines to identify a placement and respond in a timely manner. Once you have completed your screening process, please select only ONE intern from the candidate pool that is the best fit for your school and that you would like to supervise next school year. Follow the stated timeframe requirement of notifying a student intern of an offer of placement or not within 3 days of completion of your entire screening process of all candidates. Within 5 days from an accepted offer for placement, the student will need to submit the Confirmation of Placement Form with necessary signatures, which will then be evaluated by K-12 Advising for final approval.

Placements are restricted by the following: the number of students seeking placement in CPS that have been processed and received security clearance successfully as well as the university partnership contracts successfully executed. K-12 Advising will issue a Final Approval Notice upon approval of the confirmed placement.
